【草木染ストール染め体験・雪花絞り】Traditional Shibori Workshop – Make your own silk scarf, using natural dyes.
“ESHIBORIANNE” is a kimono atelier which is located in Rakuhoku area near Mt. Hiei in Kyoto.
The atelier, which is the 100-year-old traditional Japanese-style house, has quaint atmosphere.
In this workshop, you can make your own silk scarf with Sekka shibori technique (using natural dyes and natural water) which is one of the technique that is called Itajime shibori. It is a shaped-resist technique. You will learn about the history of Tsujigahana and see every step of the process of making kimono.

体験の流れ
1.辻が花の歴史についての解説 500年ほど前の資料写真や、復元した布、作品などをご覧いただきながらご説明します。
2.辻が花制作工程についての解説 制作工程を実演を交えながらご説明します。（英語・フランス語資料あり）
3.雪花絞りの説明 三角や四角などに折り畳んだ生地を板で挟んで、幾何学的な模様を染める板締め絞りの一つです。
生地の折り方や板で挟む圧力、染料への浸け方によって、花柄・丸・縞等、様々な柄が染め出されます。
4.板締め作業 生地を三角や四角などに折り畳み、板で挟んで固定します。
5.染める まずは綿ハンカチで練習。板で挟んだ生地を数秒間染料に浸けた後、水洗い。
次は本番。板で挟んだシルクストールを数秒間天然染料に浸けます。
お色は、茜(オレンジ系)・黄金花(金茶系)・えんじゅ(黄系)・ラックダイ(赤系・紫系)・天然藍(青系・浅縹)等から1色か2色お選びください。
6.水洗い 水でよく洗います。水洗いしながら板を外すと、お花が水の中で咲くように柄が見えてきます。
7.乾燥 シワを伸ばしながら乾燥させます。
8.完成 お抹茶とお菓子をお楽しみいただきながら、生地が乾くのをお待ちください。
9.着物の鑑賞 今までに制作した着物作品をご覧いただきます。

The choice of colors:
Madder (Orange)
Scutellaria baicalensis (Golden brown)
Japanese Pagoda Tree (Yellow)
Walnut (Brown)
Lac (Red)
Catechue (Beige) etc
6. Rinse
7. Dry.
8. Finish. Enjoy Matcha Green tea and Japanese sweets until the cloth is dry.
9. You can see the kimono works that has been made so far. You can try some of them on.
What I’ll provide
a scarf made of pure silk, Georgette Size about 45cm × 170cm
a cotton handkerchief for practice.

街中の喧騒を離れ、プライベートな空間で本格的な絞り染めワークショップを体験し、お抹茶とお菓子もお楽しみいただきながら、贅沢な時間をお過ごしください。
You will be able to experience the Japanese culture through the authentic shibori workshop.
Please enjoy sweets and Japanese tea at the atelier after that.
備考
・エプロン等をご用意しますが、染める作業をしていただきますので、念のため汚れても良い服装でお越しください。
・所要時間は目安です。作業進行具合により延びることもございますので、時間に余裕を持ってお越しください。
・五名様まで受け付けております。英語対応可。日曜・祝日にご予約希望の方は、事前にご相談ください。
・開始時刻は10時から11時の間、もしくは13時から15時の間です。
染め体験ご希望の方は、2日前までにお電話またはお問い合わせフォームよりご希望の日時をお知らせください。
What to wear:
Please wear comfortable clothing that you do not mind getting dirty, ruined or stained. We will provide an apron.
What to bring:
You do not need to bring anything. We will provide you with all of the tools and materials.
Who can come:
Guests ages 10 and up can attend.
There are 5 spots for the session.
